General & Preventative Services

Exams

One key aspect of preventative dentistry and your overall oral health is routinely seeing your dentist for exams. Exams enable our team to check your teeth for any cracks, chips, cavities, and signs of gum disease.

Fluoride Treatments
Dakota Family Dentistry firmly believes that fluoride treatments should be applied every six months. Fluoride treatments have been proven to help fight against tooth decay and are an important practice in preventative dentistry.
Sealants

Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings that go over the grooves of teeth to prevent food and bacteria from wedging into the spaces of your teeth. Dental sealants work particularly well with children and teens in preventing cavities and tooth decay on the chewing surfaces of their teeth. Dental sealants are a quick and easy procedure.

Teeth Cleanings

Routine teeth cleanings are a vital step in maintaining your oral health. Teeth cleanings from our registered dental hygienists remove tartar buildup and clean areas that brushing may have missed. Routine teeth cleanings help prevent cavities, gum disease, and other periodontal diseases.

Patient Education

Patient education is an intricate part of our preventative dentistry practice. We teach patients how to brush properly, floss, and maintain their dental health. This information is key to promoting quality dental health for life.

Digital X-Rays

Digital x-rays help our dentists know the most about you and your oral health. With digital x-rays, we can see fine details of teeth, jaw and teeth alignment, and information on wisdom teeth. Once we have this information, our doctors can proceed with the best practices. Digital x-rays are important to preventative dentistry and show us what is happening on the “inside” of your teeth and mouth.

Restorative Services

Implants

Dental implants are a great option for patients who are missing a tooth or multiple teeth. They are long-term replacements that are surgically placed to your jawbone. Dental implants allow patients to regain the function and confidence of dependable teeth. Dental implants can also be used to retain or support dentures.

Dentures

Dentures, or false teeth, are prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth that have been lost due to trauma, tooth decay, or other oral diseases. They are supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissues of the mouth. Patients can receive full dentures for patients who need to replace a full set of teeth. Partial dentures are available for patients who need to replace a few missing teeth.

Bridges

Dental bridges are fixed dental restorations used to replace a missing tooth. This permanently joins an artificial tooth to adjacent teeth or dental implants. Bridges are used to replace a tooth that has been lost due to trauma or oral disease.

Fillings

To treat a cavity, our team will remove the diseased area of the tooth and use fillings to replace the area of the tooth that has been lost. Fillings can also be used to repair cracks or broken teeth that have been worn down. This type of restorative dentistry will withstand chewing and should last for many years without the need to be replaced.

Cosmetic Services

Crowns

Tooth-colored crowns can help you achieve the smile of your dreams. With our dentists’ expert craftsmanship, tooth-colored crowns can be sculpted to closely replicate the look of a natural tooth and offer desirable strength and resilience to your smile.

Veneers

Veneers are custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth, ultimately improving your smile. Veneers can help alter the size, shape, and color of your teeth. This type of cosmetic dentistry procedure is excellent for patients who want to improve their teeth’s color or alter teeth that are worn down, chipped, cracked, irregularly shaped, uneven, misaligned, or have gaps.

Bonding

Tooth bonding is a simple cosmetic dentistry procedure that can help repair damaged teeth and give you another reason to smile. Tooth bonding can repair a decayed, chipped, fractured, or discolored tooth in a single visit.

Teeth Whitening
Getting that white smile you have always dreamed of has never been easier with the help of our dentists at Dakota Family Dentistry. Teeth whitening is the most common cosmetic dentistry procedure available. Dakota Family Dentistry uses an at-home whitening system utilizing custom trays. Teeth whitening will help keep your smile shining bright!

Pediatric Dentistry

Children playing in the lobby of the dentist office

Dakota Family Dentistry firmly believes that good oral health starts in childhood. That’s why we offer pediatric dentistry services to promote dental health in children. We also work with parents to educate them on the best practices for children’s dental health.

We want to help build the relationship between your child and our team, starting with their first dental visit. You should schedule an appointment once your child receives their first tooth and no later than one year of age. Pediatric dentistry helps prevent tooth decay, provides education in preventative home care, and teaches positive dental hygiene habits that children can carry throughout life.

Sedation Dentistry

For some people, visiting the dentist or even the thought of a dental procedure can lead to anxiety. At Dakota Family Dentistry, we work with you and your family members to create a comfortable dental experience every time you step into our office. Dakota Family Dentistry is excited and proud to partner with Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA), Jason Barnhard and Chase Walder, to offer sedation dentistry to our wonderful community. CRNAs possess the education, training, and skills to provide safe, high-quality, and cost-effective anesthesia care as members of the patient-centered dental care team. CRNAs practice in accordance with their professional scope and standards of practice, and federal, state, and local law to provide dental sedation and anesthesia services. We look forward to offering this service to our patients. If you have any questions, please call 605-352-6999.

Endodontics

Endontic x ray

Endodontics, often called root canals, is a dental specialty focused on the dental pulp’s care and treatment. Our team is specially trained in the area of endodontics. Endodontic procedures are needed when pulp tissues deep within the tooth have become damaged by decay, trauma, or infection. Maintaining a healthy tooth pulp is important because it contains blood vessels and nerve tissues that keep the tooth alive and thriving.

Oral Surgery

Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth removal is an important oral surgery where the patient’s wisdom teeth, or third molars, are removed because there is not enough space for growth. Sometimes wisdom teeth grow improperly and do not fully come out of the gum. This means the teeth are impacted. Impacted wisdom teeth can be quite painful, resulting in swelling and even infection, requiring them to be removed. Also, if there is not enough room for the wisdom teeth to grow in the mouth, they can push other teeth out of alignment, causing further dental problems. Wisdom teeth removal is a common oral surgery procedure that most dental patients undergo to maintain excellent dental health.

Extraction

Dakota Family Dentistry specializes in extraction. Extraction is the removal of teeth from one’s mouth. This type of oral surgery is performed for various reasons, including extensive tooth decay that has led to a “dead tooth,” when a tooth is impacted or problematic, or when space needs to be made for orthodontic work.

Periodontal Disease Treatment

Scaling & Root Planing
Periodontal disease, or gum disease, is a bacterial infection that leads to inflammation of the tissues that support your teeth. The first step in treatment of periodontal disease at Dakota Family Dentistry is scaling and root planing. Scaling removes the plaque and tartar down to the bottom of each pocket. Root planing smooths the root surfaces to allow the gum tissues to heal and reattach to the teeth. Laser gum therapy is often used in conjunction with scaling and root planing.
Laser Gum Therapy
Following removal of plaque and calculus with scaling and root planing, the dental hygienists at Dakota Family Dentistry will often use a soft tissue laser and perform laser gum therapy. This condensed form of light is used to selectively remove diseased tissues lining the pockets around your teeth. The laser will kill the bacteria that are in the deepest areas of these pockets and promotes healing of the gums.

Cutting-Edge Technology

Dakota Family Dentistry is proud to offer 21st-century technology to enhance your smile and improve your overall oral health. Our commitment to patients includes continuous education and access to state-of-the-art technology that will deliver results.

CBCT Machine
With our CBCT Machine, we can see advanced 3D images of your mouth, ensuring more accurate diagnosis and treatment. This cutting-edge machine gives us an incredible look at your teeth and mouth, helping us provide you with the best options.
Sleep Apnea Treatment
Sleep apnea is often misconstrued as snoring. However, it is far more serious. People with sleep apnea stop breathing during their sleep for a few seconds, or even longer, several times a night. This prevents people from receiving enough oxygen. Thankfully, we offer snore appliances and other treatment options to help mitigate the problem and maximize your health.

If you are suffering from sleep apnea, we can help solve the problem with a custom snore appliance. This moves your lower jaw forward, preventing the blockage of your airway. Our snore appliances are comfortable and easy to use.
